He was paralysed from the neck down and he described the pain being so excruciating that it often caused him to pass out. Mayfield passed away earlier this year. Duntsch is now 74 and is serving a life sentence for maiming a patient. WebbIt is believed that Philemon (Philip) Mayfield died sometime before 1845 because he was not listed on the 1845 or the 1846 Coweta County, Georgia tax lists although his son, Valentine Richard Smith Mayfield was listed on both of them. And, by 1847 there were no Mayfield names listed at all as paying taxes in Coweta County, Georgia. Sources
